Chef Manager


Job Description

Accountable to the Home Manager the key responsibility of this role is to contribute to the overall quality of the catering service. To prepare meals, snacks and drinks and regularly review and plan menus in consultation with residents. The Chef Manager will need to agree an annual catering budget with the Home Manager and also to ensure that food is served to the highest standard and meets agreed specification.

The role requires that cost information is provided on a monthly (and as required basis). The purchasing of goods must be in line with the Anchor purchasing procedure. The Chef Manager is expected to welcome new residents within a 48 hour period and discuss specific dietary requirements. Meeting with residents and relatives from then on on a regular basis to discuss the catering service is expected. The role requires that all Healthy & Safety and Food Safety legislation are met and to deal with visitors in a polite and courteous way. Applicants should expect to work with the senior team to ensure that suitable staff are recruited and retained and are expected to maintain confidentiality. Attending regional meetings will be required as will reporting incidences of suspected poor practice and abuse.Candidates are expected to have a recognised catering craft qualification and proven catering management experience. Should be knowledgeable of the dietary requirements of older people and have a current Advanced Food Hygiene Certificate or equivalent. Role requires coaching skills and group training skills. Candidates should be able to use IT skills effectively in order to meet the demands of the workload and enhance service delivery in the future.

Applicants should be organised, articulate and should have the ability to influence outcomes to meet business objectives. Applicants should be able to write in a clear and concise manner and the ability to build a good rapport with customers and staff to create effective working relationships is important. A flexible, enthusiastic candidate with a willingness to share Anchor’s core values is desirable. Applicants should have the ability to stay away overnight occasionally.
