In – house Advocate: Child Care and Court of Protection

£40,217 – £42,957

Northallerton, North Yorkshire

Fixed Term Contract initially for 1 year and subject to further review

Are you up to the challenge?

This exciting opportunity requires an advocate who can present the case of the Local Authority within a variety of proceedings and venues, including lengthy contested hearings relating to Child Care and Court of Protection cases in order to achieve best outcome for the client. You will lead on negotiations in areas of dispute, in order to resolve areas of conflict, whether orally or in writing ensuring a quality service is delivered to the client. You will work collaboratively with professionals in order to build excellent relationships that support the client department and ensure the Council continues to meet its statutory requirement.

The Legal Service team falls within the Legal and Democratic Services and includes 38 staff. We are proud of having held the Lexcel accreditation since June 1999 and are in compliance with the Law Society Practice Management Standards. We are very highly regarded by our customers. Feedback includes ‘Excellent information given, which allowed us to move forward and resolve the matter effectively‘ and  ‘The Team is very helpful, gave good advice with prompt replies, we were very happy with the work provided‘

As a Council they welcome challenges and have recently invited the Local Government Association (LGA) to critically evaluate our services. Who we are looking for?

As a specialist advocate you will have a significant technical competency in Children’s Services legislation and Court of Protection matters as well as substantial knowledge of local government law. You will be either a qualified barrister or solicitor with higher rights of audience in court or be willing gain this status.
